News (June 2011): Moved from the old Sun E450 to a vanilla PC running Linux, to lower power usage, be able to use standard parts, etc.
News (2/12/2007): Added a couple 147GB SCSI disks to Shire to replace the old 9GB drives. One is main storage, other is online backup. A third drive is available to replace either of the other two.
News (4/28/2005): Steeds.com will probably stay on the E450 for a while. Rebuilding Suffolk is turning into a long term project, and Shire is a nice solid machine, although a bit difficult to add disk space to (SCSI drives are expensive).
News (4/21/2005): Steeds.com had a hard drive crash. While we piece together user files and so on, we're temporarily hosting some of the web pages here. It's a nice Sun E450, which I may make the new main server if I can get a bigger disk (SCSI) for it.
News:We fried yet another modem June 2001, so we replaced it with a V.92 modem (but I think our ISP is still just V.90).
News: Two straight days of outages. Yesterday (April 13, 1999), for most of the day, our ISP had an outage at their network access point. Then today (April 14, 1999) a phone cable in our neighborhood went down.
News: Tonight, February 10, 1999, we upgraded the OS. Unfortunately, the web server (Apache) changed how name-only virtual servers are configured, so for the time being, you will have to use the second link below to access the NCAUG web page. I hope to have it fixed (one way or another) within a day. I apologize profusely for the inconvenience.
News: Today, January 15, 1999, we spent most of the day without power. Unfortunately, our UPS only keeps us powered for an extra 15 minutes. We apologize for being "off the air."
