Why did I move to a farm? Good question. Other than the fact that Jenny wanted to?
Well, I do love horses. And occasionally riding them. Bess is the sweetest horse in
the world, and she is a joy to be around. You just get this "mommy vibe" from her,
like she's taking care of me and the farm as much as we take care of her. She's now
22 years old, which is grandmother age for a horse.

Owning a farm means my work is never done. I wake up, do farm work (sometimes driving
to the feed store to get hay), go to my office, work there for 8 hours or more, come
home and do more farm work. Then it's time to "hit the hay" ("go to sleep" for you
"city slickers" :-)
My current project is building a minibarn (just for shelter) for the horses. That means digging post holes, erecting timbers, pouring concrete, nailing up plywood for walls, and a roof. |
We also have 90 sheep, and they are quite a handfull. We hope they've made their last
pilgrimage to the local fire station. They are awfully cute. A friend gave us a yearling
ewe (female sheep) named Briar, and she has such a distinctive sound, you can tell
her apart from all the others from across the pasture. All our animals have unique
personalities, and getting to know them is a joy. Mostly. :-)
