Historical Romances weave tales of love in a time long ago.
I have broken Historicals into subcategories based on where and when they happened.
Celtic : set in ancient Ireland, Scotland, Wales,
England, or the Isle of Man
American : set in a realistic portrayal of America as
it was, any time from when the first colonists arrived to around 1900
Old West : set in an extremely popular conception of
the Western frontier, which merges all Native Americans into one homogenous group, and
all Settlers into one basic group/type; it may involve a romance between two Settlers
(generally Whites), or between a Settler (White) woman and an Indian man. Not an
accurate genre, but internally consistent with standard rules, and always a great read
Native American : set among the Native American peoples,
any tribe, often before the colonists (but not always), and usually about two Native
Americans together
European : set in ancient Europe
Asian : set anywhere in Asia, including China
and Japan
