Dear Helen, Can You Tell Me?...All About Quilting Designs
by Helen Squire
review by L.
This oversize book is bound in spiral format to make it particularly easy to use. It is printed on lightweight card stock, and includes designs in multiple sizes which makes these designs quite adaptable. Since the book is oversize, it permits truly large designs - such as will fit an 18 inch block. Tidbits of information about quilting appear throughout the book. Patterns in the book are feathers, cables, curve designs, designs for borders, designs for blocks, and grids.

Show Me Helen... How to Use Quilting Designs
by Helen Squire
review by L.
The designs in this book include ideas on how to use the designs. although the patterns for the underlying ideas are not given. For example, there is a delightful pattern for quilting a harvest basket, including vegetables. A picture is shown of a finished quilt, while there is no pattern for the quilt itself, even the novice quilter could copy it, because the border is merely alternating plain blocks and fourpatch blocks. A rocking horse quilt is also shown. The rocking horse quilting pattern in three different sizes. Incidentally, many of these patterns are also adaptable to embroidery and/or applique. The illustrated quilt shows the larger horse, possibly appliqued or possibly painted onto the quilt, and one of the smaller horse designs quilted across the upper and lower portion of the inner quilt. It is then shown with a border and a contrasting binding. There is a section on fantasy, which includes a unicorn, teddy and panda bears, and a dragon. This section also includes a full-size pattern for the front of a bib with various quilting design possibilities shown.
